Talk:Archon
Added an explanation but I'm totally guessing
Wikipedia:Archon, originally from a Greek word meaning "ruler", archons in Gnosticism are divine beings who helped create the universe. Either of these sense may have given rise to the word's usage in a variety of fandoms <!-- i'm totally guessing here, but thinking of e.g. Charlie's Archons from [[Erfworld]], and google is pulling up fandom hits in [[Magic: The Gathering]] and [[Forgotten Realms]] and [[Star Wars]] and [[StarCraft]] and more -->.
I added this to the top of the page to explain what I *think* is going on with this word. Because, in addition to the specific characters (and Genshin which people more familiar with the fandom have confirmed is definitely drawing on the Gnostic deities) I feel like I see this *ALL OVER* fantasy and genre stuff. The specific example I remembered, Charlie's Archons from Erfworld, is a pun on Charlie's Angels and they're pretty much presented as DND npcs with an angel aesthetic. Can't remember what other examples I've seen, just have the feeling that its common. Perhaps this bears more investigation. Anyways, if you know more please feel free to correct the blurb on the page, especially if my guess is really wrong. Thanks! -- Quaelegit (talk) 05:20, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
