Was this labelled as "adult" when pulished? I'm just wondering because of the Spock art with full frontal nudity, and in the US that tends to be labelled as adult content. Or was this a case of different standards in 1979 than today? (this reminds me of the trouble with fic categories applied to art, as normally "gen" is thought of as the "not porn" but of course you can have pin-ups that work as porn but show neither m/f, m/m, nor f/f sex so you can't fit it into the het/slash slots...)--RatCreature 08:42, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't know. Halliday's database doesn't label it "adult," but she also has no other information about it than a title and editor. --Mrs. Potato Head 10:54, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Maybe someone who got it back then will know and add this eventually. I just had a "whoa, naked Spock and with a lizard!" (my mind went to odd places I admit, I mean, why naked next to a giant lizard?) when I browsed through the recently uploaded images and then was surprised that it was in a gen zine, because the other naked Spocks tended to come from K/S ones.--RatCreature 11:42, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
As I flipped through the pages of this zine, it startled me, too. :-) I've also got a scan of 2-page fold-out of a spectacular naked Sulu that I'm going to add at some point (can't remember the name of the zine off-hand), but I remember it wasn't a slash one either. --Mrs. Potato Head 12:00, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

art commentary

I added some notes about the art in this zine. I don't know what that image of the tree sprouting out of someone's legs is about. Any ideas?

On a related note, I was watching "The Naked Now" just now. I took a screenshot of Chapel that looks even more like the Chapel art than the image I linked to. Should I upload it? If it's incorporated into the page, we may have to lose the image gallery format.--æthel 18:35, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

The legs sprouting was, I supect, art for a story in the zine. It is unusual since it has a strong sci-fi surrealism flavor, as opposed to fan art, which tends to be more realistic and character based. It is part of an early trend where fanzines would incorporate traditional sci-fi/fantasy artwork and stories before focusing solely on fan fiction and fannish art. I'll poke around and look for a few examples.--Morgandawn 18:45, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Genesis (multimedia zine) comes to mind. --Mrs. Potato Head 19:40, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
I've updated the page accordingly. I also added a bit about the Kirk drawing, but I'm not sure I've got it right. The shading and his expression contribute to the manly hero effect, but I have this vague memory of a shot of Kirk in an episode looking like this, but with different lighting. On the other hand, he probably looks this in every episode, so maybe I should just go eat or something...--æthel 00:07, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Redacted

Oops, I didn't notice that the author's name had been redacted, and added that from my copy. I have removed that, but if someone reading this has the authority to remove those changes from the history, that would probably be a good idea. Chavey (talk) 04:13, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
