Stardate: Monday is a Kirk/Spock story by Farfalla Caqui.

It was published in the print zine T'hy'la #26 and later online in Side By Side #23.

Summary

"Kirk seems to have lost control of his emotions just as he is supposed to mediate a treaty between two colonies fighting over mineral rights."

Reactions and Reviews

Seaweed? Hairspray? What the devil do these disparate items have to do with Admiral Kirk being the victim of an atypical depression, becoming overly emotional and exhibiting all the symptoms of, uh...a female?! In PMS! You'll find out when you take on this clever and different little case. I thought the mystery was funny, to a point, and the arresting dialogue had me exclaiming Wow! many times. It is set after the original mission; Kirk is eager to take his bondmate out to dine at a new restaurant. The place is overflowing with myriad aliens and humans. As they shoulder through the crowd, Kirk gets an "accidental" dose of something from a strange "female" applying makeup.

Sorry for all the quotation marks but I don't want to completely give away the gist of this amusing plot. At least it starts out like that, then gets more serious.

Anyway, Kirk has to pay the price for the change in his natural emotional makeup by spending time in a decon chamber. Meanwhile McCoy and Spock backtrack to find the culprits, how it happened and why.

They find, of course, Kirk's worst enemies involved, conniving to throw a monkey wrench into his upcoming mediations between the Orions and the underhanded species we all know and love to detest. As Kirk remarks, "Reminds me of the Andorian we caught back in the '60s." Me too!

As the situation with the admiral deteriorates and his friends try to help, it gets really funny. Uhura comes to Kirk's rescue by offering him chocolate, a sure-fire cure for the admiral when he gets all teary-eyed at the drop of a hat. Hah! She understands.

Spock, however, has trouble on his hands. He's tried to be supportive of his lover but is forced to shield so intensely he collapses from relief when Jim finally enters the decon tank. Spock recovers, though, and he and Uhura beam down to find a clue on the planet in question—a clue that made me "gagh". This leads them to the heart of their investigation and it's final solution.

Phrases I liked and laughed at came fast and furious in this smart mystery: "Mind poison." "Mystery gas." Kirk's "fleeting disability." Ha! And wait till you find out what happened to Janet Lester. This touch was a hoot! The whole thing is a sure-fire cure for the blues. Trust me. [1]
