In the NCT fandom, SpiderMark refers to an AU where Mark Lee is Spider-Man. It exists both as a meme and as a common trope depicted in fanfiction and fanart.

Origin

It originated as a fan joke. Mark is frequently compared to Spider-Man due to having a similar personality, reflexes, appearance, and his voice has even been compared to Tom Holland. It was a long-running joke in the fandom that he was secretly Spider-Man, or an alternate "Spider-Mark".

Mark is aware of the trope. He dressed up as a buff Spider-Man for the SM Halloween in 2021. He also did a comedy skit with Johnny and Jaehyun for NCIT House, in which Johnny and Jaehyun work out Mark's secret identity, confront him, and even compare his butt to Peter Parker. In 2023, on Eric Nam's podcast, Mark commented that if Marvel is looking for an "Asian Spider-Man," it has to be him. He can also see similarities between him and Spider-Man. From this, the momentum of the trope only continued, gaining an increase in fanworks.

They [fans] kind of correlate me with the actual Spider-Man from the movies and they say I share some similarities. I don't know. Actually, I kinda do know... I can see why they think that though. I'm a fan of the Spider-Man series too. [...] I have said this to fans once. If they ever need an Asian-looking Spider-Man, it has to be me. You know, I was in the park once playing basketball with Chenle, and there were kids and one of their shoes… or was it a ball? It got stuck up on a roof, and I climbed up and got it for him. I didn’t think of it, but Chenle was the one who said, ‘Yo, you kind of look like Spider-Man there for a moment.’

In Fanon

SpiderMark has appeared as a trope in a range of fanart, fanfiction, manips and even zines. He is commonly depicted as his own incarnation of Spider-Man, instead of Peter Parker, existing in his own universe separate from the MCU or Earth-616 as "SpiderMark." These AUs are generally inspired by the Into the Spider-Verse films. He is often either SpiderMark alongside his idol life, or in a complete AU. It is not uncommon for Idol!Mark and Spider!Mark to exist in separate universes and meet due to multiverse shenanigans.

Most of the fanfiction is Markhyuck. Mark being Spider-Man, with Donghyuck either being himself, or the universe's equivalent to Ned Leeds, Black Cat, or Deadpool. The latter of which is sometimes called HyuckPool, and is essentially Markhyuck adopting the roles of the popular ship Spideypool. There are many spin-off characters from the SpiderMark trope, with some reimagining other NCT members as Marvel characters or even as their own Spider-Man incarnations, teaming up, similar to the film Into the Spider-Verse.
