The Somersault 'Verse is a series of Supernatural Wincest AU stories written by not refined. The stories were written in 2008 and 2009, briefly taken offline and reposted again in 2010.

It is considered by many in Supernatural fandom to be the best example of the Disability Fic genre in Supernatural fandom. The story was included on the sawedoff recs LJ community's final recommendation post. The eight-hour podfic by juice817 was posted on the Audiofic Archive in June 2009.

Author's Summary: How can Dean and John hold it together when Sam suffers from brain damage after a hunt gone wrong? AU after "The Benders."

Author's Notes: "My personal favourite multi-chaptered story that I’ve ever written has got to be Somersault, because the writing of it was the most intense experience I have ever had as an author and I made myself cry with it, which is always a good thing. But a close second is Innocence and Feathers, for pure random, unadulterated fun."[1]

Fandom Reactions

"Aside for the lyrical quality of each chapter and the complex relationships between the Winchesters, this story is all hurt!Sam but through Dean's eyes. Possibly one of the best Dean characterizations ever and a unique and amazing Sam at his side. This story was written many years ago but it still remains fresh and entertaining."[2]

"For those who love mentally challenged Sam this fic is definitely for you. Sam functions as a child after being hurt in a hunt and Dean looks after him. It's a lovely long read with lots love and angst."[3]

"I seem to remember enjoying this story a lot and hope others will too. At that time I'd never have touched a WINCEST story with a nine foot pole. But this was plot driven and not porn drivel. So I chanced it and glad I did."[4]

[on the podfic version]: "I just finished listening to this podfic and wanted to stop by and thank you for it. I can hardly imagine the amount of work you must have put into it, and it was fantastic! Beautiful, consistent reading, great editing (I listen with in-ear phones and I didn't hear any obvious edits--but I loved hearing what I suppose is a kitty bell from time to time), wonderful voices for all four of the main characters."[5]

"The Somersault" verse by glassyskies might be the classic of that genre. You have to follow the tags back to the beginning. There's a podfic too. I bawled like a baby at this fic!"[6]
