Solar Lunacy is a Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach Daycare Attendant/Reader fanfiction on Archive of Our Own written by BamSara starting in Feb 2022. As of Jan 2023 it is still ongoing, and has had several one-shots and drabbles set in the same universe.
The reader/Daycare Attendant pairing is written ambiguously in order for the reader to interpret whether the relationship is romantic or queerplatonic, so no explicitly romantic scenes are included in the fanfiction. However, the author occasionally doodles explicitly romantic scenes from the same universe, such as kissing or sexual innuendos.

Though not conglomerated into one "series," there are several works attributed to the Solar Lunacy universe. One fanfiction, Bytes of Lunacy, consists of almost two-dozen one-shots set in the SL universe, usually based on prompts.

Plot
As a reader insert fic, the plot begins with the reader ("Y/N," standing in for Your Name) being hired by Fazbear Entertainment at the Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex as a general maintenance worker and handyman. This causes Y/N to come into contact with the life-like animatronics used for entertainment, including the Daycare Attendant, "Sun" and "Moon." The reader becomes acquainted with them quickly, as Sun is always allocated to the daycare and Moon roams the pizzaplex at night as a security measure. They become friends, and the Daycare Attendant grows attached to Y/N. However, Sun and Moon continue to harbor secrets.
Y/N decides to snoop around to learn more about the mysteries that Fazbear Entertainment buried, including the secrets Sun and Moon refuse to share. They learn that the reason Moon is no longer allowed to be the naptime attendant was due to a sudden and violent change in his behavior, resulting in the injury and death of humans. Y/N decides to stay and try and be Moon's friend, anyway, and is certain the violence is caused by a glitch or virus. Y/N suggests doing exercises to re-train Moon, but Sun and Moon are reluctant, due to the grave danger they pose to Y/N.
Much of Solar Lunacy's continued plot is shared or spoiled through doodles on BamSara's Tumblr blog and Twitch streams. Other pieces of Solar Lunacy's future plot are in drabbles and one-offs, mainly through the fic Bytes of Lunacy. Ultimately, through the author's doodles and one-shots, it is revealed that the pizzaplex will burn down as it does in canon, Y/N will receive hush money, and the Daycare Attendant will move in with them and turn into "Eclipse," the version of Sun and Moon where they can move and talk through their body at the same time.
Headcanons and Attributes
- While many reader/Daycare Attendants call the DCA Sun, Moon, or a nickname variation ("Moonie," "Sunshine," etc), in SL they are referred to as The Daycare Attendant, The Sun, and The Moon.
- SL considers Sun and Moon to be one person or as having a low degree of separation from one another, while many other Sun and Moon fanon considers them separate, or even siblings.
- The Daycare Attendant is characterized as being coy and cryptic, with Sun loud and goofy and Moon quiet and impish.
- SL uniquely considers Sun to also have and be affected by the same virus afflicting Moon, making them both violent and unstable in different ways. In popular fanon, this is usually only attributed to Moon.
- Moon is characterized as actively violent and previously murdered a human without regret. In other popular fanon, Moon is usually characterized as only injuring humans and often regrets it.
- Eclipse has four arms and speaks as if encompassed by two individuals, rather than being a single entity. Some other fanon has characterized Eclipse as being a third, different character, rather than having the dual voices of Sun and Moon as is depicted in SL art.
Reception
Solar Lunacy became immensely popular, with the fanfic achieving over 3,000 comments and over 19,000 kudos by chapter 10, far surpassing other popular stories by the same author (such as the series Cryptids, Emotions, And The Possible End of The World). As of chapter 10 and January 2023, SL is the top-most fanfic for Daycare Attendant/Reader sorted by kudos, comments, and hits on AO3. However, it's one-shots and spinoffs do not make it to the front page.
Fans have created fanart, fanfiction, and videos for SL. One French fan on Tumblr recreated the jacket worn by Y/N and shared a video of its creation.[1] Searching Solar Lunacy on YouTube pulls up videos for the Daycare Attendant, even when they are not related to the Solar Lunacy fanfiction. Some interpretations of the Daycare Attendant, such as BamSara's design for Eclipse, may have influenced other fans' designs and depictions. For example, BamSara's Eclipse having four arms may have influenced other artists to draw Eclipse with four arms, until this headcanon became common place.

So, uh, funny story. I first discovered you on Tumblr by chance when I was looking through my “for you’ tab. You were popping up quite a lot, mainly about Celestial Omens but also about Solar Lunacy, so I got curious and visited your blog. Now I’m here and just finished reading the last update.I really enjoy your writing. The plot, the characters, even the Reader (reading them get sassy is so fun). The way you write humor and horror is really well balanced and it gets me laughing when a tense moment is broken by jokes. I also appreciate how you give all the bots time onscreen. A lot of fics I’ve read focus on only a specific character that, as someone who hasn’t played the game and get most of my fandom exposure through fics, made it difficult for me to picture the full Pizzaplex and the characters within it.
