"So Pure" is a Homicide: Life on the Street fanvid by Katharine Scarritt and Pam Rose. The vid premiered at the 2000 Escapade vid show. In 2008, the vid was selected by Francesca Coppa as part of her "Genealogy in Vidding" panel. It was also selected as part of the "24/7" DIY Video Summit.
The vid is often cited as an example of an external POV vid: "I've ... been using 'second person POV' for years to describe So Pure and other vids that are narrated by a character that the vid is not about; a visual 'you' as it were, rather than a narrative form. So in Hippie Boy, Jim is narrating, he is the 'I' of the story, but the vid is about Blair, the 'you' of the story; In So Pure, the narrator is Tim, but the vid is about Frank."[1]
The vid remains popular and was shown as recently as the 2010 Con.txt curated vid show.
In the Media Cannibals Songtape #5 Katharine wrote: "Every so often I get a song recommendation that fits perfectly. The metaphor of interrogation for dancing seemed obvious, as the uses of interrogation are at the center of both the show and Frank Pembleton's character, and through these, of theprofound impact Frank has on Tim Bayliss. As always, Homicide has wonderful visual source material for vidding. Why don't I do more Homicide vids?"
Lyrics
- You from New York
- You are so relevant
- You reduce me to cosmic tears
- Luminous more so than most anyone
- Unapologetically alive
- Knot in my stomach
- And Lump in my throat
- I love you when you dance
- When you freestyle in trance
- So pure an expression
Reactions/Reviews
- ""So Pure" is possibly my favorite vid in the history of ever." [2]
- "This is the first slash vid I ever saw that knocked it out of the park for me. As with several of my choices, this is not a show I'm familiar with, yet I'm entranced with the characters as they're introduced, and by their obvious chemistry. Extraordinary movement and energy, and a hell of a lot of fun."[3]
