Sir Bors is the brother of Lionel and cousin of Lancelot du Lac and Hector de Maris in Arthurian Legend. He remains decently popular in the Arthuriana fandom.

In Medieval Literature

His father, King Bors the elder, is killed by Claudas, so Bors and Lionel are kept captive by Claudas until one of the Lady of the Lake's maidens rescues them and takes them to be raised along with Lancelot. Bors is a pious knight and tries to protect his chastity, which leads him to be one of the foremost knights on the Grail Quest. While on the Grail quest, Lionel is captured by wicked knights. Bors encounters him while he is being tortured and may soon be killed but does not save him because he has a maiden he has to rescue. Lionel somehow survives but is so furious he tries to kill his brother. He kills two other people before Bors is saved by divine intervention and the brothers reconcile. Bors is there for the achievement of the Grail. After Galahad and Percival's deaths, he is the lone successful Grail knight to return to Camelot.

In Fandom

Much fandom discussion of Bors revolves around his conflicted relationship with his brother, who almost murders him out of a sense of betrayal.

Bors' Ao3 tag is subject to what is commonly deemed an error. Though his father, King Bors, shares his name, Bors the Younger is much more frequently featured in fan content. However, on Ao3, Sir Bors is synonymous with "Bors the Elder (Arthurian Myth)". Thus, most works tagged for his father are actually meant to be tagged for him, making it difficult to find fics tagged for King Bors. The spelling Bohort, on the other hand, is properly connected, so the majority of the fics in the "Bors the Younger" tag are in the Kaamelott fandom.
