[the editorial]:WELCOME to SHADOWS & SPIES, which celebrates television featuring action, adventure, good writing, and feminism. Remember those days? If so, welcome back. If not, enjoy!
All the shows herein are partnerships, where friendship and loyalty is very important. Three are male-female friendships, rare on television, and a pleasure to see. Three: SHADOW CHASERS, SCARECROW & MRS. KING, and REMINGTON STEELE - feature humor as a main ingredient. The zine is rated PG.
You may blame Media West for its conception. I attended a panel in 1992 which intimated it was possible for a lone amateur to produce a zine. And as a fan writer, I wanted to see what it was like on the other side of the editorial table. Alas, that was not meant to be. I received no submissions other than those I solicited, and wonderful writers like Susan Garrett and Jane Tesh need very little editing! But thank you, Susan, Jane, and Ann, for contributing. I not only could not have done it without you, I would not have done it.
I was stunned by the success of the zine -- through mail order and at Media West, it quickly sold out. Thus, in this introduction to the second (and last!) printing, I will say -- if I get story submissions, I will do another issue. I would love to read more in these universes, and obviously, so would other people! I would like to expand, just a bit, the fandoms included -- anyone for Spectre? The Professionals? The Avengers? There are plenty of Shadows and Spies out there, but they need writers to bring them to life. If we can't produce another issue, though, I hope you will enjoy this one. Please write and let me know.
