Seam is a minor character in Deltarune.

Canon Overview

Seam, pronounced "Shawm", runs a junk "seap" in the Field of Hopes and Dreams. When talked to they explain some of the lore of the Card Kingdom and the nature of Darkners, hinting early on that the Darkners of the Card Kingdom are neglected objects. They also believe the destruction of the world to be inevitable, and are mostly apathetic towards the appearance of Lightners in the Dark World, especially because they believe themself to be too old and worn to ever be played with in the Light World again.

In the optional events surrounding the Jevil fight, the player learns that Seam was once the Court Magician of the Card Kingdom, and liked to play games together with their coworker Jevil, who was the only Darkner who could keep up with their skill. After Jevil started to behave strangely and violently, Seam defeated him and locked him in jail, then destroyed and hid the key. When this topic is broached by the party, they willingly hand over the part of the key they kept out of a sense that "a little chaos before the end" won't hurt, and give hints as to where the rest of the key is.

Seam is the only major Darkner who does not appear in the Card Castle to say goodbye to Kris and Susie during the Spare ending of Chapter 1's Dark World segment. Their Light World form, a battered stuffed animal, can be found in Gerson's old classroom.

At the beginning of Chapter 2, Seam takes up permanent residence in Ralsei's castle town, selling the same items as usual. They will also talk to the party about the hidden bosses they have defeated, keeping a tally of the Shadow Crystals the player has earned from them.

Fandom

Seam's canon gender was unknown until Toby referred to them with they/them pronouns in the Undertale 6th anniversary livestream, as they are never referred to with third-person pronouns at all in Chapter 1. Many Western fans assumed Seam to be male or genderless, but in Japan they were generally interpreted as female based on their very feminine dialect.

Fan Theories

Some fans compare Seam's spinning button eye to Flowey's spinning holes face in the leadup to his boss battle in Undertale.

Many believe their missing eye and stitches to be battle damage from locking Jevil up in the past.
