Sakura-Con is an annual Seattle manga, anime, and gaming convention, first held in 1998. It was originally named BakaCon but changed names in 2000. Anime News Network's Michael Toole states they "had trouble [getting] Japanese guests" with the original name.[1]
The con is run by the Asia-Northwest Cultural Education Association (ANCEA), a non-profit organization involved in events and education about Asian culture. The organization's main event is Sakura-Con, though it also appears in other local festivals.[2]. In 2012, the organization received a special commendation from the Japanese Foreign Minister for its work in improving US-Japan relations[3].

Panels
Sakura-Con runs a variety of panels, including fan panels, which can be run by anyone with a membership. It also allows for membership reimbursement by fans that run a panel about Asian media, or how Asian media has affected culture.
Charity
There is an annual Charity Auction at Sakura-Con, which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation.[4]
Contests
Sakura-Con hosts both AMV and Iron Editor contests.

2002
At 10 I went to see a kendo demonstration. It was rather cool, even though they didn't teach how to do that cool wind slash move that you see in some anime. There are quite a few panels in anime conventions that discuss anything even remotely anime related. Another one I went to was the ADV panel. Incase you know almost nothing about anime ADV is one of the companies that distribute anime in America. Companies like ADV use anime conventions to announce various series that they picked up. ADV said that they had the rights to Noir, Angelic Layer, Full Metal Panic and some other series that couldn't remember. You can also ask the companies questions. I learned that Rune soldiers I coming out late this year maybe early next year.Warpshadow [5]
