Roach is a character from Our Flag Means Death played by Samba Schutte. While Roach is a minor character in the show, he's one of the more popular supporting characters thanks in part to Schutte's involvement with the fandom. A fan cookbook named Roach's Delights was in process as of June 2022.[1]
In fanworks where Jim has had top surgery, Roach is usually considered to be the surgeon.[2]
Oranges
One episode of the show revolves around Roach having used up all the ship's oranges to bake a cake for Stede Bonnet, who insisted on 40 oranges being used for the glaze. Oranges have become associated with the show, with many fans buying items with orange prints in the absence of official OFMD merchandise. Fans also began baking orange cakes to show their support for OFMD, with Roach's actor Samba Schutte retweeting most or all of the cakes posted.
