Recipes and Cookbooks created by fans are often inspired by a particular canon or fannish source material. Many zines and fansites contain fan-created recipes for food or drink described in media sources, for example, the Pangalactic Gargeblaster (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), adrenaline & soma (Blake's 7), Vulcan plomeek soup (Star Trek), or Hagrid's teeth-breaking rock cakes (Harry Potter). Other recipes may be inspired by fanworks; such as the many recipes created and shared by fans of the Twilight fic Wide Awake.
Some cookbooks compile recipes submitted by various actors and TPTB.
Cookbooks are often created as charity fanworks.
