The idea behind Ring*Con originates with Marcel Bülles of the Deutsche Tolkien Gesellschaft and Stefan Servos, founder of the well-know German fansite Herr-Der-Ringe-Film.de. The idea was to bring together fans, have them meet actors of the movies, and also provide a place to engage with scholars in panels and discussions.
The first convention was held November 22-24 2002 in Bonn, Germany. About 1500 fans found their way there.[1]
Starting as a Lord of the Ring only convention it was later opened to other fandoms like Twilight, Narnia, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Game of Thrones, Merlin and my more.
The successor of the Ring*Con is called Magic Con which will first held in 2018[2].
