The Reunion is a popular trope in fan fiction, and involves bringing together characters who have been apart for a considerable length of time.
Family Reunion works could involve returning home for the holidays, or been reunited with a missing, presumed dead or previously dead family member. Within fandom, the tag Family Reunion can be applied to Families of Choice as well as biological families.
Reunion works differ from Reconciliation works in that distance is usually the only factor keeping characters apart. However some reunions lead to second chance romances, with people who've previously dated beginning a romantic relationship soon after they're reunited.
Popular Reunions in Fandom
- TenRose reunion fics are very popular, and often set post-season 2, as Rose was trapped in an alternative universe known as Pete's World following the finale. These fics are often fix-its and can be future fic and kidfics. More recently, Rose has been reunited with future regenerations of the Doctor.
- Bellamy/Clarke reunion fics are very common, as they are regularly separated in canon.
- Sherlock/John reunion fics are often set post-Reichenbach, after Sherlock faked his death.
- Lyra Belacqua/Will Parry
