The rebound romance, often shortened to simply the rebound, is a romantic trope popular in both fanon and in canon. It involves a character rushing into a new relationship soon after going through a break-up, or, less commonly, after the death of their previous partner.
This trope often serves as a set-up in romantic comedies. It sometimes takes the form of a casual fling or pretend relationship that a character enters to make their ex jealous or convince people that they are "over" them, but may eventually grow into genuine, lasting love. Other times it is intended as a comedic example of Love at First Sight.
Sometimes this trope is played seriously, serving as a way for a character to recover from an unhappy or abusive relationship, or to undergo personal growth and acknowledge the mistakes or flaws that made their previous relationship fail.
