Love at first sight is a romantic trope in both fanon and canon. It involves characters falling deeply in love with each other immediately upon or very soon after their first meeting.
This is an old trope, having its roots in classical myth and literature, such as Ancient Greek stories about mortals and gods being filled with instant, uncontrollable desire when struck by one of Cupid's arrows. It has become one of the most common tropes in Western fiction and is a staple of Disney animated films.
When this trope is presented positively, it may be an example of true love, the power of love, or fairytale romance. Other times the hasty/instantaneous attraction may be treated as foolish or ruinous by the story.
