Reality Check is a Kirk/Spock meta story by Anna S. Greener.

It was published in the 1999 con zine, KiScon.

Summary

"Kirk and Spock remember the time they traveled to the K/S Universe, where they aren't real but fictional. They observed an intriguing group of women there at something called The K/S Press party."

Reactions and Reviews

1999

I recently re-read this imaginative story, and it made me laugh just as much as when I first read it during KiScon. It's written entirely as dialogue, a format that seems to lend itself to humor. There's even a Sci-Fi premise in the form of an "inter-universal transporter," which of course enables Kirk and Spock to investigate a mysterious place called the K/S universe. I love the way the author includes so many elements from last year's K/S Press party, and brings in the KiScon story contest as well.

And how inspiring to know that the connection between our (K/S) universe and the Star Trek one is so strong that what Kirk and Spock do can influence our actions, and vice versa! One of my favorite exchanges uttered, of course, as they prepare to have sex:

"Just imagine, Spock, at this very moment we may be helping millions of people in the K/S universe."
"Billions, Captain."
"Billions, then. God, I love being heroic."
What a funny and clever story! [1]

Very cute. With some observations of our K/S universe cleverly snuck in. [2]
