Randy Brimer, longtime Star Trek fan.

Randy Brimer (born November 29, 1963, died December 13, 2024) was a Texas-based fan club organizer and convention staffer in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth and North Texas areas from the early 1980s through the early-2000s.

A life-long Star Trek fan, Brimer was an active member of Starfleet and one of the founding members of Trek International, both role-playing Star Trek fan associations.

He first served as First Officer of the local Arlington, Texas fan group the U.S.S. Alliance, under the command of Commodore Elinor Heatherly. In early 1984 he was appointed Captain in his own right of the U.S.S. Constitution fan group in Sherman, Texas (both chapters of Trek International).[1]

Con Staffer

Brimer assisted with the organization and operation of two Trekkon conventions in San Antonio, Texas, working closely with con chair Tony Wynn, held respectively in 1983 and 1984:

Personal Life

The following are excerpts from the online obituary published by Fisher Funeral Home of Denison, Texas:

{{Quotation|"Randy Brimer, 61, of Denison, has passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 13, 2024, after a long illness, surrounded by the love of his family and so many dear friends. As the legend has been told, it was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, TX that set the wheels in motion for Randy’s slightly earlier than expected arrival in Sherman, TX, on November 29, 1963. He was the first born and only son of Bobby Gene and Marylyn Ruth (Cox) Brimer.

A graduate of Sherman High School in 1982, Randy was an old soul who had a passion for classical music, writing, old movies/TV shows, travel, reading and sharing a laugh with those he loved. He began playing the violin at a young age and for many years of his young adult life, he proudly performed with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra. At 16, he was hired for his first job as a courtesy clerk for the Tom Thumb grocery chain. He thoroughly enjoyed giving educational tours of the store to elementary and middle school students groups. After Tom Thumb closed, he went to work at the Sherman Public Library, where he found sanctuary among his love for the written word. He made the difficult decision to leave the library in 2003, after the birth of his son, Ethan, for the hardest job he would ever have, being a stay-at-home Dad. Upon re-entering the workforce, he found himself working as a Master Control Operator for KTEN Television in Denison, TX.

A life-long and dedicated Trekkie and Sci-Fi fan, he met his soulmate, Tracy, at a Star Trek convention in Oklahoma City in 1994. They married on October 10, 1998, and welcomed Ethan into their family 5 years later. Always ready with a slightly innocent mischievousness, Randy could lighten any room with a quick joke and a light-hearted laugh. However, nearly any child or young adult within a 500-mile radius could attest to his love of using every opportunity to give a strikingly long educational or disciplinary lecture on any number of topics. He was always willing to share his immense knowledge, whether useful or not, with others.

Randy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tracy Brimer, and son, Ethan Brimer. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Randy’s memory, give a donation to Home Hospice of Grayson County or to any charity of your choice."[2]
