Post-Chosen refers to Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanworks set in the wake of the S7 finale, 'Chosen'. In this episode Sunnydale is destroyed and the First Evil is defeated but at great personal cost. Several fan favourite characters including Anya and Spike die during the fight. Also in this episode, Willow casts a spell to activate all Potential Slayers, ending the tradition of only one Slayer per generation.
Post-Chosen fics can be set immediately after the survivors leave the crater that was formerly Sunnydale, or they may be set years or even decades after the final battle. There are many fix-its, bringing back deceased characters. These include AU fics where Spike's resurrection happens differently than it did in canon, where Spike joined series 5 of Angel the Series.
There are also OC-centric stories focused on the newly called Slayers.
Popular Tropes
- Xander in Africa is a Xander-centric post-Chosen trope.
- Roadtrip fics are common and often set immediately after the destruction of Sunnydale, with the survivors seeking a new home. Their destination varies. In some works, they travel to L.A. and visit Team Angel. While in other works, they relocate to the second hellmouth in Cleveland, Ohio.
- Fix-its range from Everyone Lives to plotty stories where magic, time travel or other tropes are used to change canon events, often saving a character from their canon death.
- Establishing a new Watchers Council and locating and training new Slayers
