Pocky Day is a popular event in Japan. The event is celebrated by eating pocky with your friends and family and sharing photos in social media under the #pockyday tag. Pocky are long biscuit sticks covered in chocolate. The day November 11th was chosen to hold this event because of the shape of the sticks.

The popularity of Pocky Day has transcended Japan, and although in the rest of the world Pocky is not as popular, fans celebrate it just the same, creating content of their favorite characters eating Pocky together or playing the Pocky Game.

On the Pocky Game, two people eat a Pocky stick from each end. The first person whose mouth comes off the Pocky or the other player gets to the middle first loses. If the participants end up kissing, it is a tie. The prospect of the accidental kiss makes Pocky Day popular with shippers and every year, the tag fills with fanarts and fanfics of their OTP eating pocky and playing the Pocky Game.

Pocky Day is not a fannish event per se,[3] but the amount of content that is generated on that day, both in Japan and in the rest of the world, is remarkable enough to have an impact on fandoms.

Fanfiction

The Pocky Game tag on AO3. Fanfics about The Pocky Game are written all year round, but most of the content originates on Pocky Day.

Although fanfics about The Pocky Game can be done at any time of the year, most are published on November 11th. These fics are usually short, fluffy slice of life oneshots where two characters play the Pocky Game. It is usual that one of the players doesn't know the rules and the other has to explain what the game is about. Reactions when learning what the game is about are usually excitement, shock or amusement. Sometimes, the game takes a quirky twist, with one of the characters nicking the sweets but kissing the other anyway.
