Percy/Nico is a popular slash pairing for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus fandoms.
Percy Jackson is the main protagonist of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the demigod son of Poseidon. In The Titan's Curse, the third installment in the series, Percy Jackson first meets Nico di Angelo, the demigod son of Hades. Nico is involved in many of Percy's journeys throughout the original series, but it is later revealed in the Heroes of Olympus series that his deep admiration for Percy had turned into romantic feelings. The conflict with this relationship is that Percy was completely unaware of the feelings until Nico told him and is in an established relationship with Annabeth Chase (Percy/Annabeth) and Nico is in an established relationship with Will Solace (Solangelo) and has gotten over his feelings.
Common Tropes in Fanworks
As a vital character in the series, Percy Jackson is a very powerful- if impulsive and headstrong- demigod with a strong sense of loyalty. He is clever (though somewhat oblivious) and likable, and his courageous actions cause others to greatly (or begrudgingly) respect him. In contrast, Nico is somewhat of an outcast. As a child of Hades, the god of the dead, his power causes others to feel wary towards him. Though he is eventually welcomed wholeheartedly by his fellow demigods, Nico often keeps to himself.
Fanworks often emphasize this contrast in personality, using their clashing traits as a key factor in the chemistry of their relationship: Percy as the brighter half, and Nico as the darker half. Other tropes make use of Nico's background, as the younger and possibly more naïve of the pair. Nico had previously held a great sense of admiration towards Percy that later developed into romantic feelings, but was in denial of his sexuality for a large part of the series. While Nico is technically younger, he was born decades before, but didn't age while he stayed in the Lotus Hotel with his sister Bianca. Some fanworks highlight this homophobia, as an important conflict within Nico that he must overcome in order to accept himself and validate his feelings.

Fanfiction
- Kiss a Boy in Tokyo Town by antistar_e is probably the most recced and widely-known Percico fic in existence. However, it has been the subject of some controversies, ranging from certain fans calling it an example of Any Two Guys and badfic to accuses of biphobia and racism.
- Tribulations by betsib and MidnightinJapan is another very popular fic written for the PJO Big Bang of 2014. In this story, Nico and Percy are subjected to a series of trials by Hera and Aphrodite in order to determine whether their love is true love, even though they aren't actually a couple (yet).

However, it has been around much longer than others, making the number not an indicator of current popularity. Moreover, the tag is often used in works that focus on other ships and only include the pairing in its canonical form of Nico's one-sided crush on Percy. (Last accessed 1 December 2024)
