Paradise Lost is an early Harry Potter fanfiction by Ebony a.k.a. AngieJ. It is a sequel to the controversial Trouble in Paradise.
The story comprises a prologue and fourteen chapters. Ebony also planned to include an epilogue, but one was never posted.
Ebony originally planned to write a sequel to Paradise Lost, making the TiP series a trilogy, but instead converted what would have been the sequel's plot to several of short stories posted to HP_Paradise.[1]
Ebony removed the story from HP_Paradise and Schnoogle in 2006. The first nine chapters are still online at Remember Us.

Summary: Political upheaval and plagues and passion… oh my! In the year 2012, the wizarding world faces the threat of genocide amidst a time of turbulence and terrible prejudice towards Muggles and their magical progeny. Disclaimer: This story is based on characters and situations created and owned by J. K. Rowling, various publishers including but not limited to Bloomsbury Books, Scholastic Books and Raincoast Books, and Warner Bros., Inc. No money is being made and no copyright or trademark infringement is intended. Other citations will be provided at the beginning or end of chapters, where needed. This teacher and aspiring writer is ever so grateful that Ms. Rowling has allowed us to enter Harry’s world through her novels.
WARNING: This fic begins in August 2012, fourteen years after the Hogwarts canon is scheduled to end. All of the characters you recognize from the canon are now adults and will behave accordingly. That this fic contains adult themes goes without saying. There are several scenes planned for this fic that are emphatically not suitable for young children or persons of any age who are disturbed or offended by graphic violence or sexual content.
[First] Chapter Summary: Exactly three years after the close of Trouble in Paradise... seventy-two hours in the life of Hermione Granger during the end of her self-imposed exile to the Muggle world. We follow her at work, on a date, and even into her thoughts... right before she makes a decision of monumental proportions.
Dedicated to JKR’s wonderful character of Hermione Granger herself... and to all Hermione fans worldwide. Also to Lori Summers, who first made grown-up Hermione come alive in my imagination. Without her work, neither this story nor this series would be.
This Story in Context: Some Powerhouse Harry Potter Fics of Early 2000s
In the early 2000s, Harry Potter fandom was still quite new, and fans were clustering and swarming in many ways that would define much of the fandom later. One of these gathering points were a group of highly admired stories by a group of well-known Harry Potter writers. These stories, posted as serials, had many fans at the edge of their seats waiting for installments.
A fan wrote in 2001:
... I went and read through the files and I found one that has all these posts that our Idols, the Goddesses Lori, Cassie, Penny, Carole and Queen Ebony wrote early in their FanFiction Careers. It was so cool. I've been feeling a bit inferior because I have major writer's block and I just read all this wonderful stuff by our pantheon so.... But Like it has a message that Cassie wrote about posting her first story and she was worried that it wasn't that good or something (never think that Cassie, you're wonderful) And I realized (sorry Goddesses) that they're all human too. I just had to laugh at some of the original ship preferences and ideas and the ideas that were born and then incorperated into their stories. [2]
