P.R.O.B.E. is a BBC-approved Doctor Who fan film spinoff series created by Mark Gatiss and Bill Baggs and released by BBV Productions. It starred Liz Shaw, but due to licensing could not reference The Doctor overtly. Despite this, the cast included four actors who had portrayed the Doctor appearing in supporting roles. Similarly to Big Finish productions, it rests on a thin line between official and fan-made media.
In addition to the main film series, there are also many audio books and short stories.
P.R.O.B.E. is known within fandom for canonising Liz Shaw being a lesbian.
