“Orrery” is another attempt to come to terms with 1013’s unsatisfactory canon ending to Samantha’s plot arc. When Harold Piller’s son is found alive, it throws into question everything Mulder had thought was true about Samantha’s fate. The POV shifts, from Scully in present day to Samantha in the past, and back again. It’s not a happy fic but it is a very fine one.[1]
