Once More... In Standard is a Kirk/Spock story by Addison Reed.
It was published in the print zine First Time #23.
Summary
"Kirk tries to give Spock lessons in seduction when they are given the orders to go after the Romulan cloaking device but realizes his true feelings and is afraid of what Spockʼs reaction will be."
Reactions and Reviews
Kirk and Spock prepare lo go on an espionage mission to steal the Romulan cloaking device a la "The Enterprise Incident". Spock must be trained to seduce the Romulan commander so Kirk agrees to give him lessons. Oh boy. This leads to a romantic candlelight dinner complete with soft music, dulcet tones and hand touches. "Spock,..look at me..." he urged quietly. Then they dance. I am a complete sucker for the two of them dancing together What a beautiful scene as Kirk gels totally wrapped up in the sensations and doesn't realize the music has ended. Spock can't believe that his captain could actually desire him. " 'It is your intent that I employ these types of contact in order to display my prescribed attraction to the Romulan?'"
Spock thinks that his own "disrupted control" affected Kirk's subconscious and made him feel that way! Can you imagine? That's like "The devil made me do it" or something.
Oh wow! Kirk gives Spock a goodnight kiss! It turns into a real humdinger (Let's see—shortness of breath, palpitations, sweaty palms, thrashing on the carpet.... Yep. Damn fine.)
Once they meet the Romulan commander, the entire scene is merely told to us with one line of dialogue. This manner of storytelling certainly moves things along but in a really dull way.
I wanted so much to know what went on as Spock attempts to put his seduction lessons into practice. Then suddenly at the end an entirely different story is introduced when Spock reveals he's never been held since the age of three and Kirk starts crying. But ignore this and totally love and enjoy the first part of the story. Boy. I wish this author would come back to fandom. [1]
