On My Own is a Hanson fanfic by Akimbie. Although not the first story to slash Taylor and Zac, it was one of the first to achieve widespread popularity.
Sequel
Akimbie attempted to write a sequel to On My Own, titled Pretending He's Beside Me. However, she only posted six chapters before declaring it permanently unfinished and posting her outline for the rest of the story so as it provide her readers with some resolution.[1]
Reactions and Reviews
I’ve heard that Akimbie was conflicted by the attention this story, not the first of its kind but the most widely popular, brought to Zaylor. I think the steaminess of the sexy scenes probably played a large part in that, although they’re far from the best I’ve read. Despite the fact that she did, ultimately, portray the harsh realities of two brothers in love, there’s something interesting about that sort of tale that makes other people want to write their own take on it.[2]
In that same genre, this story is, to me, the most well written. And it delves deeper into the taboo. You’d just have to read it. This is an excellent story, no matter what your opinion is of the subject matter and I think it belongs on this list because of that.[3]
I started reading and was instantly hooked on this story, it's certainly very unique and the author writes absolutely beautifully. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure you guys will too.[4]
Awards
On My Own won awards in the Dust Bunny Awards and Various Artists Awards, and was nominated in the Hanspirational Fan Fiction Awards. It is also featured in the PlaceToHide.net and Various Artists halls of fame.
