Reactions and Reviews

First I love Kirk, next I love Spock and third...I love the Enterprise. Not only that, I get a particular satisfaction and enjoyment from action based plots. This reprinted story offers all these in quantity and quality. The bridge dialogue in the opening scene is so realistic you can hear the beeps and clicks and feel the hum of the engines. The words are so well chosen that you would swear you are hearing them with your ears instead of your eyes. This hooks me. I am here for the duration and am never disappointed.

Action aplenty awaits in the first few pages, an adrenaline laced concoction straight out of a well-paced TOS episode, but with dangers new and believable. Battle stations! Explosions, surprises and uncertainty await. Because of my love for the lady known as Enterprise, my heart quickens at phrases like this: "Enterprise swung away from the planet below her, away from the tiny gnats chasing her, and climbed for the stars like a homesick angel." Like a homesick angel. Oh, that just cuts through me like a knife. I love it! Can't you just see her pulling away and streaking through the heavens—climbing for the stars? Here's another example: "And, for an endless moment, Enterprise was caught in the hand of Eternity..." Wow! The vision this description evokes is so powerful and dramatic it gives me chills. Yes, K/S fans, things do heat up on a personal level. Kirk and Spock learn to love one another during this episode. The fact that they do so while embroiled in the universe that makes them who they are only adds dimension to their attraction and discovery.

Then there is the epilog. The unexpected and intriguing. Was it real? What exactly is real? Read it and find out. [1]
