Reactions and Reviews

... basically sweet PGP Avon/Servalan, if you can imagine such a thing. I am also very partial to the Kathy Hanson illustrations for "Nova", especially (of course!) the one of Avon dangling from the ceiling on p. 107.[1]

in many ways this is a difficult story to read - I had several goes before I could finish it. I find myself struggling with the idea that Avon ended up an alcoholic drug addict - but of course that often happens when someone feels that life is just not worth the trouble anymore and yet canno bring themselves to acitively finish it. The dynamics between Avon and Servalan here are intriguing and well thought out. Neither completely capitulated I think and they both changed each other in subtle ways. Well written, even if hard to read.

Thank you so much for the feedback.
It was hard writing the drug addict part. I hadn't planned it originally.
I got to the part where Servalan had a real chance for power, and she turned around and looked me in the face and said: "I want the power. Shame about Avon, but that's the way it is."
You sum up exactly why Avon turned to drugs. It was easier than killing himself directly.
You're right. Neither of them capitulated totally. That mutual influence was what Orac hoped for.[2]
