Newmann is the pairing Dr. Newton Geiszler and Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, two scientists in the Pacific Rim Universe.
Canon
In Pacific Rim both characters are scientists working for the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. These two often bicker and disagree due to their very different opinions on the Kaiju monsters that are attacking coastal cities. Hermann also disagrees with Newt'a decision to drift with a Kaiju brain at great personal risk to himself. To understand how to close the breach, Newton goes in search of another Kaiju brain, but finds himself in the middle of an attack. Hermann is sent to find Newt. The two drift with the Kaiju's brain and discover that only objects containing Kaiju DNA have the ability to cross the breach. This information allows the Jaegars to destroy the breach.

Raleigh has not spent any time in the research division. He's also beginning to question his knowledge of German. For instance, did Newt really just tell Hermann he had a perfect face?
- In the Hour After Zero by Amuly, In the case of Drs Newton Geiszler and Hermann Gottleib, "bickering like an old married couple" was actually a fairly literal description of them. After all, they had started dating one year after Newt came aboard the PPDC, then married two years after that. So maybe the "old" part of "old married couple" wasn't perfectly accurate, but it was really just technicalities at that point.
