Name Withheld 10[1] is an author of Forever Knight fan fiction. These stories, written c. 1994, were posted to FKFIC-L and auto-archived on the PSU server. They were subsequently transferred to an online archive (most probably Darkangel's FKFIC-L archive), and thence copied by Mel Moser when she began the main FK fan fiction archive at www.fkfanfic.com.

In 2012, Name Withheld 10 discovered that her old stories were still available on the open web, and wrote Mel asking to have them removed. However, by this time, although Mel continued to pay for the site, she had long since ceased to edit the archive and largely left Forever Knight fandom.

Back in the early 2000's, when I found that my fics had somehow migrated onto fkfanfic.com, I had sent Ms. Moser an email to please take down my fics, but instead, she updated them with my new personal email and my real married name. Naively, I had assumed that she had done what I had requested and didn't follow up. Silly me. So in 2012, when I was feeling nostalgic for FK, and wanted to read some fic (not mine - that doesn't qualify as enjoyable reading) I looked up her site and saw that she hadn't taken the fics down, but had added my personal info to them. And she was no longer responding when I tried to contact her multiple times and ways. — Dearjunie, 25 May 2014[1]

When Name Withheld 10's request was not complied with, she eventually wrote to Mel's ISP, complaining of copyright violation. As a result, the website was taken down some time in May 2013.

If Ms. Moser had chosen to remove the fics and their links the complaint would have been withdrawn and her site would have been put back up. She chose, however, according to her email to me after she finally got in touch with me, to let the site lapse without making the attempt to comply as she claimed she was no longer interested in running it any longer [...] . — anonymous,[2] 23 May 2014[2]

When the disappearance of the archive was noted by Forever Knight fans, attempts were made to contact Mel, but in vain. As a result, the fandom remained unaware of the reason for the take-down.

To preserve the stories for the use of fans, Stephanie Kellerman added to her website at www.foreverknight.org a copy of the archive that she had made in 2001. In May 2014, Name Withheld 10 realized that her stories were still on the web. Her immediate assumption was that, in order to circumvent the ISP takedown of www.fkfanfic.com, Mel must have sent a copy of the site to Stephanie.

[Mel] assured me in that same email that the works in question would not be distributed to other sites. After that, however, the contents of her former website appeared on Stephanie Kellerman's website - including the works that had gotten Ms. Moser's site shut down [...]. — anonymous, 23 May 2014[3]

At this point, Name Withheld 10 contacted Stephanie, setting a deadline for the removal of the stories.[3] She also began making edits to the Forever Knight Wiki, adding information about the ISP takedown of Mel's archive. (From this point, there is public correspondence on the kerfuffle from one of the User talk pages on the Wiki.)

Ms. Kellerman is being given ample time and chances to comply, before the matter will then be brought to the attention of Ms. Kellerman's ISP, which will no doubt result in a site takedown until she has complied. I have also sent emails to yourself and Ms. Moser as well as Ms. Kellerman, hoping desperately that we can avoid having the ISP take down another site all because a few fics and links weren't removed.

I have tried so very hard to be nice about this and give involved parties ample time, ample notice and ample chances to do the right thing, before being forced to resort to contacting ISP's for takedowns.

It would be heartbreaking if such a valuable resources as Ms. Kellerman's site were also to be taken down because of such an easily fixable matter.

The stories were, in fact, removed by Stephanie Kellerman from both the FTP site and the main archive on 25 May 2014.

At Name Withheld 10's request, the stories have also been excluded from the Wayback Machine.

Fan Fiction

The following stories are listed in order of publication (as ascertained from authorial notes). They are, as the author herself admits, apprentice work.

I was able to use public library computers at either 15 or 30 minutes at a time to explore what there was of the internet and fandom - and everything was in text back then, no graphics at all! After laboriously handwriting my (awful) stories, I had very limited time to type madly to be able to post them onto the FKFIC-L list before my allotted computer time ran out - This was in 1994 or 1995. And the library computers didn't have word processing software, so I couldn't make an actual file and later edit it. It went directly to the list as an email submission. Couldn't edit them or fix formatting errors, and didn't really have time to be able to read it over once it was typed out to check if it was actually any kind of quality reading material I was inflicting on my fellow fans! (here's me cringing in embarassment *)--(*  !) — Dearjunie, 25 May 2014[5]

The first story can only be described as melodramatic badfic; but the situation described was (perhaps inadvertently) quite humorous. The remaining stories are farce; and, although they are not well written, they contain the germ of genuine comedy.

"Things That Go Bump In The Night"

Frustrated by Nick's angst, Natalie turns to Janette for advice—which she then follows to the letter, hitting him over the head (literally), and astonishing him with a tirade that brings him to realize how much she really loves him.

"Chain Letter"

When LaCroix fails to send on a chain letter, disasters start multiplying: the Raven is decorated pink, he is pursued by overly adoring fans who rip off his clothes, his accountant invests his money in a tampon company, and Nick confesses that he's gay.

"Death By Tofu"

Natalie decides to try feeding Nick tofu. When he balks, she says that she's pinned his floral-patterned underwear to the bulletin board at the precinct—and, when his mouth opens in horror, pops in a large spoonful. When he gets to the office (and finds the bulletin board innocent), he discovers that Myra has also got on the health food kick, and both he and Schanke have tofu in their lunch bags.

"A Milkshake Knightmare"

Natalie's latest attempt at a blood substitute gives Nick a nightmare in which, among other things, he is pursued by LaCroix in a purple dinosaur costume (i.e. based on the children's TV show character, Barney).[4] Natalie thinks this is a good sign, for bad dreams are very human; but LaCroix—who has been lurking outside the window—has caught glimpses through his connection with Nick, and decides to torment him by buying a "Barney" Halloween costume.
