Miette is an internet-famous cat who lives with poet Patricia Lockwood.[1] She is the subject of a meme that is used in all kinds of situations, including fannish ones.
On March 19, 2019, Lockwood posted the following tweet:
me, lightly touching miette with the side of my foot: miette move out of the way please so I don’t trip on you
miette, her eyes enormous: you KICK miette? you kick her body like the football? oh! oh! jail for mother! jail for mother for One Thousand Years!!!! [2]
The tweet became extremely popular as it humorously summed up the over-dramatic tendencies of cats, and quickly became a meme. It is often referenced simply with its first line ("you KICK [name of person/thing]?"), but many versions reproduce the entire tweet.
Miette is also the subject of fanworks, such as fanart and fancomics that reference the meme.
On May 12, 2021, Sass replied to Lockwood's post:
Sometimes I remember that the word “cat” appears nowhere in the original miette tweet but we all understood, instinctively, that miette was a cat [3]
Miette fell ill on August 18, 2021:
prayers up for miette please. she suffered a vestibular attack earlier — lost control of her back legs and the muscles of her eyes. we raced her to the emergency vet where they gave her fluids and we should know more in the next few days. in the meantime … continue to Draw Her [4]
On August 19, 2021, Lockwood tweeted that Miette most likely ate a lizard and went blind for 36 hours:
official diagnosis from her vet: Miette most likely ate a lizard and tripped so hard that she lost control of her body from the neck down and went temporarily blind for 36 hours. her bloodwork is completely n...(normal but she will go forth as someone who has Seen God. [5]
These announcements caused much concern and a fresh wave of comments and memes by Miette's fans.
