Michael/Maria is a very popular Conventional Couple from the TV show Roswell.

Canon

Michael and Maria's relationship in canon is, from the start, designed to portray the opposite of what is happening in Max/Liz relationship. When Max and Liz are apart, Michael and Maria are close. They get together early on in season one, at first keeping their relationship a secret, as well as keeping is strictly physical, but they quickly grow closer emotionally as well.

Fandom

Michael/Maria pairing name is Candy. This is because the first names of the characters both began with the letter M (M&M which alludes to the chocolate candy M&M's), thus they are also referred to as M&M. Candy shippers are known as 'candies', although they have been also referred to as 'candy clanners' and 'kinky candies'.

I love Michael and Maria because of the passion, because it’s a messy relationship, because both of them are extremely flawed individuals. The deep feelings compared to the constant denial gave me something to root for. The relationship was a roller coaster of ups and downs, passion and fighting, and it was FUN. It was wild. It was never boring. Two such flawed individuals find each other against all the odds, including sometimes, the disapproval of their friends. They were each broken in a different way, and together, they make sense. Their volitile relationship is so different than the "soulmates" of Max and Liz, but Michael and Maria have always seemed more real, more sincere to me, than Max and Liz. (Thats not a knock, just a personal opinion.)

• Persephone’s Footfalls by elisabeth This is an answer to Jennifer's challenge (on the Roswell Smut list) which asked for an M&M story using a Greek myth as the basis. I rarely do challenges, as I have a hard time tailoring my warped mind to fit the usual challenge criteria, but this fic is indeed based, in part, on the myth of Hades and Persephone.
