Khylara wrote gen and slash in many fandoms, along with poetry. She passed away from diabetes complications on November 5, 2020 at the age of 50.[1] Her MUNCLE poem The Good with the Bad won a FanQ Award in 2004.[2]

"I'll always remember Mel for the conversations we had at conventions and her welcoming personality. In fact it almost never felt like a real convention until I saw her there and we had a chance to catch up. So many of us will miss her.
"I knew Mel for decades through conventions and she wrote for my publications. I remember once at a convention someone asked her what she wrote and I said she could write anything. She told me that was the highest praise she’d received. She will be missed by so many."
