The Malone Family is a part-canon part-fanon collection of aliases used by the Batfamily. They are a crime family in Gotham and are known to spend time in seedy bars.
Canon
Of the Batfamily members, only Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Damian Wayne are known to have Malone aliases. Bruce was Matches, Dick was Robbie, and Damian was Li'l Matches.[1] The name Matches Malone was taken from a Gotham criminal who faked his death (and later actually died).[2]
Fandom
Sporadic(?) Malone family headcanons date back to 2015 or earlier.[3]
Minnie Malone
Malone Family fanon began primarily with a 2020 fic centered on Matches, built on Stephanie Brown using the alias Minnie Malone, created by Hinn_Raven.[4] Minnie is introduced as Bruce's sister's kid, but she and her fellow aliases are typically assumed to be Matches's secret kids (in some combination) or otherwise written as his children. The original Tumblr post by the author received over a thousand notes.[5] Minnie was actually first mentioned as an easter egg in 2019 in a different fic by the same author.[6]
Minnie & Jackie Malone
According to general fanon, Steph and Tim are either no longer dating or in the ending stage of their relationship when they create their aliases. As a bit of a game, they decide to give their characters a convoluted on-and-off history, in which Jackie (Tim) is Minnie (Steph)'s cousin.[7]
Tim Drake
Tim is usually given the fanon name Jackie.[7][8] This developed despite the original Minnie fic featuring Tim's alias Alvin Draper, with no Malone relations, as her on-and-off boyfriend. [4] Other aliases have included Jasper,[9] and "Grampy" and "Meemaw".[3]
Cassandra Cain
Aliases used by Cassandra as a Malone include Roxie, a scene kid and the daughter of Matches's high-school girlfriend;[4] Angel, Matches's spoiled daughter;[10] Delilah, a pickpocket;[7] Daisy, Matches's murderous bastard daughter;[11] and Minnie "The Mouse".[3]
Jason Todd
Aliases include Pete,[12] occasionally Matches's cousin and Ric's brother;[4] Archie;[7] Petey;[13][8] Roddy;[14] and “Sonny” “The Chef” “Legs” Malone.[3] His fanon persona often takes inspiration from his one-time canon disguise as a mustachioed high roller.
Duke Thomas
Aliases include Markus, Minnie's half-brother;[4] and Zack/Zachary, the son of Matches's ex-girlfriend.[7]
Dick Grayson
Despite Dick canonically using the name Robbie in 1999, he has also been written as Matches's cousin and Pete's brother Ric (a reference to the Ric Grayson amnesia storyline);[4] and Ricky.[15]
Barbara Gordon
Aliases include Ally,[7] Robbie's twin sister;[16] and Saunders “Swifty” Malone.[3]
Damian Wayne
While Damian is typically written using his canon alias, Li'l Matches (sometimes Matches Jr.), others have included Lil' Larry.[12]
Selina Kyle
Aliases include Naomi, Matches's wife.[16]
