Marc David Lewis was four years of age when he was entranced by Davros unveiling his Mark III Travel Machine in Dr Who's Genesis of the Daleks (1975), and he has been a fan ever since. A year or so later, George Lucas unleashed Star Wars, thus cementing Marc’s lifelong love for science fiction.
Escapism is an escape I do not wish to escape from.[1]
A self-taught artist throughout his formative years, Marc decided to combine two loves of his life: art and fandom. He went on to earn a BA Hons in Illustration from Liverpool John Moores University in 2007 and has been selling artwork ever since, the majority of which feature characters from Doctor Who, Star Wars, and other fantasy and science fiction.
He has exhibited artwork at Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock including the Merseyside Maritime Museum (for most of the decade up to about 2019) and he has also contributed artwork to Liverpool's International Music Festival in 2013-14.
He considers himself to be a traditional artist and produces hand drawn and painted artwork using either acrylic paints or charcoal. His work is largely based on realism with a hint of comic book style and amongst his biggest influences are artists such as Norman Rockwell, Alex Ross and William Kentridge.
