Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds is a major character in the Joss Whedon show Firefly and subsequent movie Serenity. He is the Captain of Serenity, a Firefly class transport ship. Mal is played by actor Nathan Fillion (who later played Richard Castle in Castle and Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog).
Shipping
Mal's canonical UST love interest for the duration of the show is Inara Serra. This situation is only partially resolved by the end of the film. Mal is the Little Black Dress of Firefly fandom.
