Makoto Niijima is a main character in Persona 5 and Persona 5:Royal.
Canon
A model student with an inferiority complex, it’s amazing Makoto finds time to fight demons. Raised by her older sister due to the death of their parents, she nonetheless feels like a burden in the household, and her people pleasing nature gets the better of her when she ends up owing money to a Yakuza boss for the sake of another student. She soon learns to take matters into her own hands however. Quite literally. With a knuckle duster.

Makoto is hinted as the ‘canon’ pairing with Joker throughout the events of Persona 5, with several situations in the game suggesting they are paired together. Due to the fact that you as Joker can choose to date other females in the game, in fanon, any of the other members of the Phantom Thieves are a viable partner, and ships with her sister Sae exist.
