Maggie is a side character from the second season of the Good Omens TV show.

Canon

Maggie owns the record shop The Small Back Room on Whickber Street, which has been in her family for generations. Aziraphale owns the building and knew some of her ancestors, so they have a friendly relationship and he’s shown letting her off rent in exchange for records. Her shop is also opposite Nina’s coffee shop - she is a regular there and has a long-standing crush on Nina.

Throughout the season, Aziraphale and Crowley put Maggie and Nina in cliched situations from romance stories in order to make them fall in love. They are frustrated by this and eventually confront Crowley about it. Nina ends up developing feelings for Maggie but decides she needs to be in a better emotional state before starting a new relationship and Maggie supports this, saying she’s willing to wait for as long as she needs.

Fandom

One fandom discussion is how Maggie could be a mirror to Aziraphale, due to their similarly cheerful personalities, or Crowley, as both characters have to support a partner dealing with the impact of a toxic relationship/situation (Nina with Lindsay and Aziraphale with Heaven).

There are many theories about the cause of Maggie’s ‘odd’ behaviour. Things often brought up in discussions include her being very socially awkward, and saying or doing unusual things without seeming to realise. Some fans say this may be because she is secretly an angel or a demon and is trying to mimic human behaviour, similarly to Muriel. The Magic Trick You Didn’t See: Being An Analysis of Good Omens Season 2, suggests she could be a character the Metatron wrote into the Book Of Life. Other fans say that Maggie could be autistic, or simply just very shy, and may actually relate to a lot of her behaviour.

Shipping

  • Maggie/Nina is the most popular pairing involving Maggie, although the platonic ship Maggie & Nina is also quite common.
  • There are also many Crowley & Maggie & Nina fanworks, mostly focused on their friendship post-canon and how they support Crowley after Aziraphale leaves for Heaven.
  • Due to Aziraphale’s connection to Maggie’s family and the implication that he’s known her for a lot of her life, Aziraphale & Maggie fanworks exploring this idea are also not uncommon.
