-Shipping Name Origin
"LonaShipping" was coined sometime before 15 November 2016 for the pairing.[1] By 31 December 2016, it was their 'official' name on the the Neverending Romance ship name list[Notes 1], considered the masterlist for all Pokémon ships ever conceived. This is the most popular -shipping name for them.
Around the same time, "MahinaShipping" was coined by weirdlyawsomegal on tumblr[2] and popularized. It initially was used for several pairings, including Ash Ketchum/Lillie and Ash Ketchum/Selene.[1] Despite not being considered their 'official' name, it is popular among shippers and may have been considered their only name in some circles.
Unlike the majority of Pokémon ships, Gladion/Selene also has a third commonly used ship name, "LunarEdgeShipping." It is the least popular of the three and was likely coined after Lona and Mahina. While it is on Neverending Romance, it's for the pairing of Gladion, Selene and Silver from Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, a very rare pairing that has no fan activity, thus basically all LunarEdge fanworks are just for Gladion/Selene.
The portmaneau GladMoon is also popular.
