Kyubey is a major character in the 2011 anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica and its subsequent multimedia franchise. Initially presented as a genre-typical magical girl mascot character, he is eventually revealed to have his own hidden agenda and manipulating events and other characters for his own purposes.
Fandom
Speculation over whether Kyubey was evil or not began almost immediately during the show's original run. Another common debate is whether Kyubey is capable of lying, and to what extent his statements can be accepted at face value. As relatively little is known about Kyubey in canon, there is room for a wide range of interpretations and perspectives of his motives and character.
As his presence is necessary to make a contract, Kyubey is often the only character from the original series to appear in fusion AUs with other canons.
Anthropomorphized or human versions of Kyubey occasionally appear in fanart, as well as various interpretations of Kyubey's "true" (usually far more terrifying) form. Both his behavior and his seeming inability to die make him a target of frequent abuse in fanworks.
