Kovu is a character from the universe of The Lion King, first appearing in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.

Canon

Fandom

He is both canonically and fanonically Kiara's prince-consort, her one-true-love, the Romeo to her Juliet. Despite Kovu only being a prince-consort, in fanon he is usually written as the Pride Lands ruler after Simba steps down, sometimes even surpassing his wife's power. In canon this would be inaccurate as Kiara has more power than him. His storyline is that of a reforming villain, changed by love.

Fan Awakening

Kovu is quite regularly mentioned as an example of a (sometimes) guilty crush, especially that folks, whether in the actual fandom itself or not, had as a youngster.

Ever since Kovu graced the world with his presence in 1998, it's been pretty hard to forget about Disney's hottest king of the jungle.[1]

Parentage

Though Kovu, and often his sister Vitani, are usually kept as Zira's offspring, usually with a rogue male, they are sometimes headcanoned as being the offspring of a lioness other than Zira that she has killed. Occasionally they'll be headcanoned as Scar's, choosing to ignore the sequel's insistence they're not.
