Keith Kogane is a character from the Voltron franchise. He is the protagonist of Defender of the Universe and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Canon
Defender of the Universe
In Defender of the Universe he pilots the Black Lion and is the leader of the paladins of Voltron. He is a talented martial artist, responsible, calm, and disciplined. He was born in Hong Kong to a Japanese father and a Chinese mother but was orphaned at a young age. Over the course of the series he falls in love with Princess Allura and develops an intense rivalry with Lotor. He eventually marries Allura and retires from his paladin duties to become King consort of Arus. He passes the Black Lion pilot position to Daniel, though he took back this position in the season finale because Daniel was not ready yet.
Voltron: Legendary Defender
In the 2016 Voltron: Legendary Defender reboot he is the pilot of the Red Lion which makes him the right arm of Voltron when they assemble. He relies on his instincts and is loyal, quick and determined yet lacks finer social graces. Keith had "disciplinary issues" which resulted in his expulsion from the Galaxy Garrison. He is 18 years old at the start of the series and spends a year with his team and two years in a time warp making him at least 21 by the end of the series. He is half human and half Galra - an alien species. His unnamed human father first appeared briefly in Blade of Marmora and his Galra mother, Krolia, appears for the first time in the fifth season. His character is voiced by Steven Yeun. The VLD incarnation of Keith has blue-gray eyes instead.

Fanon & Headcanons
- Some think that VLD Keith is Korean because his voice actor Steven Yeun is.
- The headcanon that Keith is from Texas is very popular.
- Another headcanon is that Keith is a Native American from Arizona, as Keith lives near the Galaxy Garrison which seems to be located in an Arizonan desert (reminiscent to how the Sonoran Desert of Arizona is used by NASA to simulate extraterrestrial environments) and many Native American peoples such as the Navajo Nation lie largely within Arizona. Keith points to a map which is an exact match of the Grand Canyon and the Blue Lion is found in the Havasupai Indian reservation (fitting for the aquatic Blue Lion as Havasupai is renowned for its waterfalls). The showrunners have stated that they never envisioned Keith as any specific ethnicity unlike the other human characters. His heritage is listed as a human and Galra hybrid in the series bible, but no human ethnicity is described.
- It was once thought that Takashi Shirogane and Keith are related in some way; brothers, cousins, etc. This has long been jossed.
