Reactions and Reviews

1988

JUST FOR OLD TIMES SAKE is 'cute'. I'm not fond of 'cute', but many readers are. It's written well and does place McCoy in a fun situation.[1]

1990

I love this story. I laugh every time I read it. I like the picture of Kirk and Spock retired together, settled in to happy matrimony. There is one phrase I wish wasn't there: "the last of both their lives." It's too sad. But the picture of McCoy overhearing Kirk and Spock's struggles with the air conditioning conduit and thinking "Naah!" is priceless. Possibly my favorite line (coming with impeccable timing after a long pause): "Maybe it's too short." [2]

1998

An elderly McCoy makes his way to the house on Vulcan where Kirk and Spock are living. As he travels, he remembers such cute things like how he had to learn not to go bursting in on them when they were all on the Enterprise. Then he wonders “if they still do it?” and “Old codgers! Probably have to be content just to hold hands these days!” These thoughts set up a hilarious encounter with Kirk and Spock once McCoy reaches the house. I won’t give it away, but all the double-entendres are totally funny. [3]
