JE is an umbrella term for idols signed to Johnny's Entertainment, a Japanese talent agency. Johnny's has been cranking out boybands since the '60s and doujinshi featuring the bands have been popular in Japan for many years, but it's only recently that JE RPF has become popular among English-speaking fans.
Although some people are fans of just one band, there is a lot of crossover between bands due to special projects, cross-band friendships, dramas various members star in, etc. Het fic usually features Japanese actresses.
The fandom is very international, with a thriving East Asian fan community.
