Jillian Salvius/Mother Superion (sometimes called Jillian Salvius/Suzanne) is a rarepair fanon femslash pairing in the Warrior Nun fandom.
Canon
Suzanne is a member of The Order of the Cruciform Sword, in the role of Mother Superion; Jillian Salvius is the CEO of Arq-Tech. They first interact in season two, when Mother Superion and other remaining members of the OCS go to Jillian for help defeating Adriel.
Suzanne and Jillian stay behind at Jillian's home when the others infiltrate Adriel's cathedral. When Adriel's followers carry out a surprise attack and steal Jillian's work, Suzanne fights them off and protects Jillian. When Suzanne is mortally injured during the attack, Jillian expresses guilt over failing to protect her in return; she is also present when the halo resurrects Suzanne.
Fandom
The fandom around this pairing became more popular after the release of season two when there were canonical interactions for fans to draw inspiration from and to expand on.
While their respective ages are never provided in canon, both Suzanne and Jillian are position as being older than the majority of the main cast, often estimated to be around the age of their actresses and so in their 40s. This, and their roles in canon which meant they were often mentoring, training, supervising or otherwise watching over other characters in some way led to some fans seeing them pairing up to look after the nuns in the OCS. Some fans look at this from more of a co-worker type of perspective, while others explored their relationship developing into a romantic one as they spent more time together.
Additionally, in canon continuation works, some fans explore the grief that both women would have felt with the loss of Michael, Jillian's son, and Ava, who had grown to see Suzanne as a parental figure. Some fanworks focus on the pair supporting each other through this grief and loss.
On Archive of Our Own, the pairing is tagged in 86 works as of March 2024, with 32 of them being 'otp:true'.
Common Tropes in Fanworks
Examples Wanted: Editors are encouraged to add more examples or a wider variety of examples. |
- Found Family/Blended Family - Given that Suzanne, especially in season two, took something of a parental role to the younger members of the OCS, and Jillian's son, Michael, was a supporting character throughout the two seasons, some fanworks explore AUs where Michael survives and the two "families" blend together.
- Angst with a Happy Ending/Hurt/Comfort - With both women suffering hurt canonically, some fanworks continue to explore this hurt, but offer a happy ending for the pairing.
