Fanworks appeared for the pairing have appeared on YouTube, Archive of Our Own, Tumblr, DeviantART, Wattpad, and Fanfiction.net.

Based on works posted at Ao3, it is the most popular pairing for both of these characters and is particularly popular in the DC comics fandom. This pairing also appears in Teen Titans and Young Justice fandoms. It is also the second most popular pairing in the live actions Titans TV series fandom, despite the two character having limited interactions in the first series.

In December 2018, the Tumblr tag JayDick was deleted as part of the Tumblr Purge.[1] Fans began using JasonxDick and Dickjay tags to share content.

  • Age difference:
    • Canon age difference: Dick is several years older. Biggest age difference between two successive Robins. Dick has more life experience, sexual experience, and maturity. Fics almost always say that Jason has had feelings for Dick since childhood. Flashbacks between child Jason and adult Jason.
    • Same Age or Closer Age AU: Get rid of the age difference to avoid dark and uncomfortable topics. Often make them similar age, with an age gap separating them from the other Robins. Some complain this is not as fun.
  • Dominant/submissive, top/bottom, seme/uke dynamics:
    • There is popularity for the characters in both roles.
    • Asian and Asian-influenced fandom tends to use ship name DickJay for Top Dick x Bottom Jason
    • In his other most popular slash/yaoi ships, Dick is usually the uke. In the early days and for new fans, many see Jason as dominant masculine top, and Dick as feminine bottom.
    • Around 2018-2019, top Dick and bottom Jason surged in popularity.
    • Currently the Bottom Jason and Top Dick AO3 tags are much more used than the Top Jason and Bottom Dick tags. But because the top and bottom tags were not used so often in the old days, it's hard to say which dynamic has more total works.
