J'onn J'onzz, commonly known as Martian Manhunter, is a DC Comics character.
Canon
Comics
J'onn J'onzz, also known as John Jones and Martian Manhunter, made his first appearance in Detective Comics #225. (1955).
[...] a superhero from the planet Mars and the last surviving member of his race. A martian holocaust killed his wife and daughter, nearly driving him mad, until he was brought to Earth in an accident caused by scientist Saul Erdel. His natural abilities include super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, flight, shape-shifting, intangibility and telepathy. He has been a member of almost every incarnation of the Justice League of America. Although he holds great reverence for his homeworld, he has come to greatly respect his adopted world as well and protects it as his home. In his secret identity, to blend into humanity, he is a gritty hard-boiled police officer.
Justice League / Justice League Unlimited (DCU)
J'onn J'onzz was the last Martian and one of the founding members of the Justice League. J'onn can be seen as the true founder of the Justice League, having telepathically reached out to each of the founding members, except for Batman, who nonetheless followed Superman's lead, and gathered them together.[1]
Supergirl (TV Series)
J'onn fled to Earth and stayed hidden for centuries until he was discovered by D.E.O. Director Hank Henshaw. After Jeremiah Danvers sacrificed himself to save J'onn by killing Hank, the Martian began posing as director Henshaw to reform the D.E.O. for its intended purpose and became an ally of Kara Danvers/Supergirl and her sister Alex Danvers.[2]
