InuYasha (also written Inuyasha, Inu Yasha, etc.) is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of many other bestselling series like Ranma 1/2. It follows the adventures of a modern-day Japanese schoolgirl in the Sengoku period along with various demon hunters and demons including the titular InuYasha.
The title: The full title in Japanese is Sengoku Otogizoushi InuYasha (戦国御伽草子 犬夜叉), sometimes translated as InuYasha: A Feudal Fairytale. The name InuYasha is composed of the kanji for dog (犬) and the kanji for yaksha (夜叉), a type of Buddhist demon or nature spirit.[1]
Viz started releasing the manga in English starting in 1998. As of March 2010, 46 out of the original 56 volumes have been translated. The manga has also been translated into many other languages. The first anime series ran on US TV in the 2000s.[2] The series is also widely available scanlated and fansubbed.
