Reactions and Reviews
IN LIFE AND LOVE AND LAUGHTER magnifies the faults and has few of the virtues of its precursor. It takes up the story a year later, and in that year Tiri has been transformed from an innocent, unsophisticated girl who has never seen a machine to a totally adjusted, completely competent and fully qualified nurse. Sorry, but I can't accept it -- any more than I can accept that Kirk, so strongly against pets on his ship, and using rank to obtain privilege, in the TV series, would allow McCoy's girlfriend to keep a kitten aboard.
The one strong plot element, a restuarent [sic] siege by terrorists, is submerged amid the kind of romantic mush that has made Barbara Cartland a fortune, and the introduction of a potentially interesting new character and a telepathic linkup between her and Tiri does nothing to make the sugary mess more digestible. This is the kind of story which is fun to write, and pleasant to share with friends; but it is selfindulgent [sic], poorly crafted, and should never have been published. [1]
